Antifreeze in radiator is milky like oil & anti is mixing?

my friend has a 1997 mitsubishi eclipse rs 2.0 L 16 valves non turbo manual trans. 97,000 miles.he was adding antifreeze when he nottes oil mix with antifreeze. it overheats, runs great, no antifreeze on oil, starts good,he wants to change the head gasket we know is goin to be a big job. is there someone out there that can give 2nd or 3rd opinion on oil in antifreeze thanks.Antifreeze in radiator is milky like oil %26amp; anti is mixing?
Hi--Your over cylinder head gasket definitely needs replacement, your radiator a cleaning(replace the radiator cap as oil has already eaten the rubber joint....yes quite a big job as you mentioned as overheated engine can also affect other parts. Hope that it has not damaged other internal organ/s(Just do not want to discourage you..Most of the time an overheated engines cause damage to internal organ..which will require either a check on engine casing, re-boring or replacement on ';cylinders(sleeves)--';, piston..piston rings--flat bearing..gaskets..etc--meaning general maintenance on your engine.

Your overhead cylinder also need a control for it's plain surface, and whether there is crack.

Also 97000 miles means general engine maintenance especially if you like to drive in a sport manner(%26gt;4500tr/min)..:)Antifreeze in radiator is milky like oil %26amp; anti is mixing?
head gasket
Now that's a problem.
Sounds like a blown head gasket
You've got a cracked headgasket. Worse still, you may have a cracked block
You blew your engine! Good luck!!
you got a bad head gasket get it fixed now and don't drive it any till you do
Generally that does mean either a blown head gasket or cracked head.
sounds like a head gasket to me

How much do oil filled radiators cost to run, compared to convector radiators?

If they have the same output (e.g. 2kw or 3kw) on their label, then they cost exactly the same to run. The convector puts out heat quicker, but stops putting out heat quicker when you turn it off. The oil-filled radiator is quieter than a convector with a fan, which may be helpful at night. How much do oil filled radiators cost to run, compared to convector radiators?
For the same amount of heat the cost will be the same, since both rely upon convection to circulate the heat. Current (in Amps) multiplied by voltage (in Volts) will give the power (in Watts). So a 2 Kilowatt oil filled radiator will consume the same amount of energy as a 2 Kilowatt convector heater. HOWEVER, the convector heater will provide heat almost right away, whereas the oil filled radiator will take several minutes before it provides any useful amount of heat. This might make you think that the oil filled radiator is wasting energy, but in the end both the convector heater and the oil filled radiator release the same amount of heat for the same amount of energy consumed. So for example, although the oil filled radiator takes longer to produce heat initially, it will continue to give out heat long after the power is disconnected, whereas the convector heater ceases to produce heat almost as soon as it is turned off.

  • I have oil in my Radiator water. What can i do?

replace the radiator and have your transmission flushed and a new filter put in it as the bottom part of your radiator is the cooling for your tranny and it has broke open and mixed into your radiator water and the radiator fluid is now running through your tranny too.I have oil in my Radiator water. What can i do?
You either have a cracked head, or the head gaskets gone.

So you need to figure out if it's worth it to get fixed.

It's expensive, well over $1000 depending on the vehicle, and if you can get a good deal from a shop.

Take it in and see if it's the gasket or the head itself, and go from there. The gasket kit runs anywhere from $150-$400 (roughly), to do it yourself, but if the head is cracked.....won't do you much good.I have oil in my Radiator water. What can i do?
THIS HAPPENED WHEN THE ENGINE BLOCK WAS CAST. A PINHOLE APPEARS IN THE CASTING ALLOWING OIL FROM THE OIL GALLEY, WHICH IS PART OF THE ENGINE BLOCK BORED FOR THE OIL TO CIRCULATE. THE OIL IS THEN PUMPED INTO THE WATER COOLING JACKET OR ANOTHER PART OF THE ENGINE WHERE THE COOLING WATER CIRCULATES, AND THEN INTO THE RADIATOR. IT IS SIMPLY A FAILURE IN THE CASTING OF THE ENGINE BLOCK. THE ONLY CURE I KNOW OF IS ANOTHER ENGINE BLOCK, SHORT BLOCK OR LONG BLOCK. I PREFER A LONG BLOCK, BECAUSE THE HEADS ARE ALREADY RE-WORKED AND BOLTED ON. ABOUT THE SAME COST.
Head gasket leaking, and they don't make stopleak you can put in your oil. If it was water in the oil, you might stand a chance, but you're on your way to getting your hands dirty or spending some money. Sorry.

Light brown oil in radiator but no water in oil?

I am working on a 92 Camry, 1.6 motor, auto tranny. There is light brown oil in the radiator. The owner of the car said he drained the water several times but there is stil that same color oil in there. I was thinking either the gasket or radiator from the tranny. I checked the tranny fluid and the motor oil and it was clean.... no water in it. The motor runs and sounds reallly good. Could it be possible, when he purchased the car, the previouse owner had a bad head gasket and ended up getting oil in the radiator, then repaired it and now the oil in the radiator is so thick that it hasnt flushed out when we replaced (flushed) the coolent? There is a little smoke out the tailpipe but it doesnt smell sweet like coolent. It's very little smoke but constant, maybe bad rings? there is also water dripping from the tailpipe, and the weather is not cold... I dont remember if he said the water in the rad goes low fast... anyone know? I'm changing the head gasket anyway on Wed.. but dont want 2.Light brown oil in radiator but no water in oil?
Water won't show in the oil pan unless the block is cracked. With a blown gasket, it sucks water out of the jacket during intake and blows air into the jacket during compression. What will show up is a white/gray glup sticking to the underside of the oil filler cap.

Go to a part store and borrow a pump up radiator tester. If the system holds presure then there is nothing wrong. Also take the radiator cap off and run the engine for 20 minutes. If the gasket was leaking, air would be blown into the water and you will see bubbling water (steaming water is normal).

All three symtoms are normal. Even with the chemicals in the antifreeze, the inside of the block still rusts changing the color from green to brown (especially if he has been running straight water). Time to flush. If I look hard enough, I've found rainbows in all water to some degree (easier to sell little old ladies overhauls). Bigger rainbows if the antifreeze has ';water pump lube'; in it. Water out of the tail pipe is normal in the morning. During the night water condenses in the muffer and is blown out in the morning. Watch a car when it is below freezing, a big cloud follows it for 20 minutes. If it is still spitting water after a half hour then I would worry.

All that said, if you had a 2.2, I would say that the gasket ripped from #3 to the water passage behind it. They were famous for doing it. However I have never heard of a 1.6 leaking. I even saw a lady pour cold water into an overheated '83 corolla and it didn't leak.Light brown oil in radiator but no water in oil?
    With the Radiator Cap off and the Engine running for a minute or so do you smell Exhaust in the Radiator? Yes, Head Gasket. No, Transmission Cooler Lines, ';New Radiator needed.';

Whats better? Oil-filled radiator or oil-free?

I have no idea about transportable radiators, so im going to randomly ask some questions. You dont have to answer all of them, i just want a general overview!

Are oil-filled radiators cheaper to buy, but then you have to keep buying oil?? How much does the oil cost? How often do you replace it?

What are the advantages of an oil-FREE radiator?

    What uses less electricity?

Im willing to spend a maximum of 拢80 on this. I have no idea where to look because i dont want to get ripped off.

Argos sells these, I came across this but i dont know whether Argos is selling it at a more expensive price...

What about extra panel heaters?Whats better? Oil-filled radiator or oil-free?
Oil filled radiators are sealed units .You do not have to fill them. They use oil instead of water because it supposedly stays hotter for longer than other liquids.

Why is engine oil winding up in my radiator ???

2002 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX 3.1L MOTOR 60,000MILESWhy is engine oil winding up in my radiator ???
If you are sure it is engine oil and not transmission fluid then

your heads are warped or you have a crack in your block,,,,Why is engine oil winding up in my radiator ???
would check out your head gasket. does the oil look a bit like mayonase? This is a bit clue the head gasket is gone. What colour is the coolant?
intake or head gasket is leaking.
Cracked block OR Blown head gasket
That is not good, the first answer got it right!
beacause its a 2002 pontiac grand prix 3.1L motor 60,000miles!

    you must be blind!
that shows signs that your headgasket has given in don't drive it take it to a garage before you cause much more damage
I would drain my oil and make sure the opposite isn't the case also. If water is in the oil the head gasket is blown and needs replaced ASAP. If nothing is there then it's more than likely ATF (automatic transmission fluid) you're seeing which could be a result of a hole in the transmission cooling lines within the radiator.
doesn't sound good. Sounds like a cracked block.

Radiator has some oil in it?

My radiator has started to get hotter then normal and I have noticed some oil in the water reservoir that feeds into the radiator and I would like to know how to fix the problem, without heading in to the closest town for a mechanic which is 300mile from where I live.

Please help if you can.Radiator has some oil in it?
I would check the oil immediately before driving the car. Pull the dip stick and look for any milky white or chocolate milk looking color. I would change the oil and when draining the old oil, look for this discoloration. Another sign to look for is low coolant that has to be refilled, but no obvious signs of a coolant leak. The problem might be a leaking head gasket. If this is the case DO NOT RUN THE ENGINE UNTIL THE GASKET IS REPAIRED. The mix of coolant in the oil will damage the engine in a very short period of time. But if this problem was noticed and repaired immediately it will only cost you a head gasket replacement instead of an engine. This was a common problem with certain engines including the chevy/gmc 3100 and 3400 engines. The new replacement gaskets made by fel-pro will actually last longer than the factory originals. Next, I would check the transmission fluid for discoloration and improper level since the transmission cooler lines run through the radiator, and if a transmission line leaks at radiator the coolant contamination will destroy the transmission in a short time.Radiator has some oil in it?
My best bet.... either a blown head gasket or a warped head. Oil passages and coolant passages in most engines are very close together.

There are a few cooling system additives you can use to get by for a week or two, but you need to get it properly repaired before you really damage to a point where repairing is no longer an option.
    *Replace your thermostat.

(If you can't replace your thermostat than definitely take it out and clean all the oil and gunk off of it.)

    *Flush the radiator

*Replace your head gasket or use sealant on it

(if you cant find sealant for an engine block and your desperate to get into town, try a putty or makeshift seal to gum up the leak. Make sure its held on tight.)
sounds lihe a blown head gasket. you can buy a block sealant to add to the radiator but it is not 100% guaranteed to work. that is the only option besides a mechanic if you can't do the job yourself.
You seem to have a blown head gasket, top over-haul seem to be the save cost solution. Seek for a pro. is advisable.
    Head gasket most definitely.
good sign a head gasket and it look as if your making a long trip ive never live i a town that didnt have a shop in it

Why is oil in radiator and radiator fluid leaking when warming car DONT SAY HEAD GASKET I WANT A DIFFERENT ANS

hello my car has been running very rough every scence the weather has dropped on 2 occasions it did not start till several hours later. i noticed the radiator container had black oil in it i also noticed that on 2 different times when warming up the car, radiator fluid had leaked a little on the ground. car does not over heat, no bubbles or white stuff in oil. please give me some advice if u have any that is useful i dont believe this is the head gasket THANKS ALLWhy is oil in radiator and radiator fluid leaking when warming car DONT SAY HEAD GASKET I WANT A DIFFERENT ANS
i think crack in the cylinder headWhy is oil in radiator and radiator fluid leaking when warming car DONT SAY HEAD GASKET I WANT A DIFFERENT ANS
I am not certain this will help but it may. I have a nissan 240sx, and last winter it started running really rough and stalled all the time. Then I noticed both my oil and antifreeze from the rad were mixing and spilling. I was told that it was either that I cracked the block or the head gasket but that was wrong. I figured out that my car had a timing chain (rather than a belt which some cars have) and the chain was put on a tiny bit too loose so over the years it wore a hole through the side of the chamber right through to where the oil and antifreeze were. I have to have the whole thing replace and it cost me about $1500. I hope this may help. If anything, do a little research on your type of car to see if you can find other people who have had that problem. That's how I found out what was wrong with mine.
Sorry but there is no other answer than IT IS the headgasket, the headgasket will also make the block crack and cause all sorts of problems. Take it into a mechanic if you dont think thats what it is.
no type of car given, so here goes, it is the headgasket, or it is the intake gasket, or if you have an internal oil cooler, it is the oil cooler, but hey, you did not want to hear it, its the headgasket, especially if its a general motors 2.2 litre motor
sounds like head gasket may be blown from the exhaust to the water. i had this happen on a nissan it ran fine for a while then it started to show oil in the overflow . how we figured it out was to take it to a mech. there is a tester that can get for exhaust gases in the radiator. the water leak could be coincidental. i bet it is caused by excess pressure from the head gasket to the water side of the engine. there is only one way for oil to get into the overflow thats by headgasket failure. also while at the shop have them compression test the cylinders, this may answer the poor running problem. how long has it been since it has been tuned up?
it's most definitely your head gaskets
if you have the mechanical knowledge why you ask something different than the true?

what ever you have there you will need some heavy work on the engine to get it fixed

ill prefer change the head gasket instead of a broken cylinder head or a broken engine cylinder

and ill tell you the true like or not ROOKIE when you have one of above bad, the piston send the oil with heavy compression to the water system, that is why you see oil in the coolant tank and of course when the engine starts it pushes the remain oil again to the water system, once the water systems get full it will find a way out and that is why your car when runs starts leaking

and another reason why your car is runing rough, is because is LOOSING COMPRESSION SOMEWHERE

so i prefer repair the head gasket but you dont what to hear that so ill pray you have a bad cylinder and need to replace the COMPLETE ENGINE :D

those all my best wishes for you for the new year
    Sorry kiddo,

The headgasket is blown--especially when you say the engine running rough. I'll bet you find the oil level low.

Oil pressure is higher (20-60psi) than water (7-18psi) and usually goes in that direction. Oil in the water. Unless its blown at the cylinders and coolant passage---then you'll get white smoke out the tail pipe.

Other proof of the gasket is if there are air bubbles in the radiator coolant, LOOK when engine is cold and observe as engine warms up. Never open when it's hot.

the only other possible thing it could be is:

    cracked block

    cracked head

diesel engine with an oil cooler (heat exchanger)

Love to tell you it's something that's only gonna cost you a few bucks to fix, but that's not the case.

Why not ask 'answers' for a good mechanic in your area?

    jan_elgaard ASE Master Mechanic.
You could have a ';Cracked Block'; I had that problem with a previous car of mine. The car still managed to run but not well. But it looks like the only way you will find out what your problem is, is trial and error. There is no real way of finding the place where the two are mixing unless you take it all apart. i would try the cheapest fix first. or maybe just sell the car while it still runs... and get another one
if your sooo sure its not a head gasket then there is one other alternative...you have a crack in the block from your cylinder wall to your water jacket...
cracked head or block ok i didnt say head gasget...not to many ways for oil and water to mix...and u may want to find the leak
    Sorry but thats a headgasket
    check or replace PVC valve
Could be a cracked block. Did it freeze lower than the antifreeze could handle??
With oil in the water, it is probably a cracked head. how ever it could be a crack anywhere in the engine. you might be able to find it with a pressure test, but you may have to tear down the engine to find it.
It could be a number of things - problem is that oil does not stay where it should. This means only one thing - something in the engine either cracked (head or block) or something gave way (a seal or gasket, incl head gasket). There is probably no easy fix for this. Most mechanics will recommed removing the head to figure out what is going on. This will destroy the head gasket and thus will need replacement. I know you did not want to hear head gasket, but I think if you are lucky, it will be only the gasket. Cracks in the head or block is expensive to fix and there is no guarrantee that it will not crack again, unless you replace the damaged part. The problem could also be as a small seal somewhere in the engine (internally) that failed. If you vehicle has a engine oil cooler that uses the radiator to cool the engine oil, it could be possible that you have a leak there also - this should be failry easy to fix if the problem is in the radiator - just replace it.

Just my 2cents - hope it helps.
Take it to a repair shop if you don't like the answers you get. Sounds like a head gasket or your head is warped might need to take it off and check.

  • What do u do if you accidentally put oil in the radiator?

Go to car maintenance classes and then reverse flush your radiator(with water)What do u do if you accidentally put oil in the radiator?
    When you get sober,

flush the cooling system and try again!

Actually though, a bit of oil probably won't damage anything, but it needs to come out of there. What do u do if you accidentally put oil in the radiator?
    Hope?

    Or flush it out?
Buy a new car and learn from your mistake...
flush it out real good.don't start it up.whatever you do.could damage something.
put the can down, step away from the vehicle.
The only thing you can do is flush it oil always sits on top of water so you need it out it may affect the cooling of your engine and do damage.
Kick the tire, curse a lot, punch something and then do a radiator flush.

Get a Chiltons (book) it'll tell you how to do the flush for your car.
Just drain it and buy a good radiator cleaner and run through it. Rinse it out real good and put new antifreeze in it and your good to go. It's not as big of deal that people on here are making of it and won't have any lasting effects on the engine.
If you put in a considerable amount of oil, I would not drive the car. I would drain the radiator now, without driving the car at all. Then I would have it towed to the mechanic, to flush out and refill the radiator with fresh anti freeze. That way, you won't have the tainted anti freeze flowing through your engine. .............It might be best if you simply leave the car where it is, then call a mechanic and get his advice about what you should do.
Flush the coolant system. Get a maintenance manual, it will tell you how to do it.
You mean after you pull your head out? You take the radiator off and have it professionally boiled out. Hopefully you didn't run the engine. If you did then have the entire cooling system professionally flushed and be sure you tell them what you did.

My car over heats . no water in the oil .no loss of fluid that i can tell just pressure in the radiator?

the car cools if i turn the heat on . mass pressure in the radiator but dose not come out the over flow.can sealant work for me,or is my problem simple like a thermostat? My car over heats . no water in the oil .no loss of fluid that i can tell just pressure in the radiator?
It could be your thermostat or your water pump. There are a couple of things that you can do to check the water pump or thermostat.

1.) With the engine completely cool, locate the water pump and put your hands on the pulley. If you can move it up or down or side to side, then that means the bearings are bad and the pump needs to be replaced.

2.) With the engine running grab your top radiator hose and squeeze it shut. Let go. If you don't feel any pressure when you release the hose then your pump is bad. You can also check this by popping the cap off of your radiator and look to see if you see the water flowing.

3.) To check the thermostat boil a pot of water. I know, sounds funny but I'm serious. Put your thermostat in it and continue to boil. You should see the thermostat open up. If it doesn't, then it's bad.

Hope this helped. My car over heats . no water in the oil .no loss of fluid that i can tell just pressure in the radiator?
If there is no fluid at all in the overflow you are low on coolant. If there is fluid in the overflow and it stays at cold, your thermostat could be stuck closed. If the thermostat doesnt open the coolant never passes through the radiator so it wont cool the engine, or heat the coolant enough for it to overflow into the jug. The radiator should be underpressure, the higher pressure gives water a higher boiling point. Id try a new thermostat they are usually less than $10, or if you dont want to spend the money take it completely out of the car and see if it still overheats
Take to a mechanic Quick. Over heating can destroy your engine,
go the garage and get em to look at it BUT try trustworthy mechanic's or you will get told to buy this and that , just to get them paid for fixing it

    i would say THERMOSTAT
If you have electric fans, check to see if they come on when they are supposed to. If they are ok, then perhaps you have a plugged up radiator, bad thermostat, or bad water pump.
Check both the upper and lower hose, if they are both hot when the car overheats then it's not the thermostat, if they are not both hot then replace the thermostat. You may also have a cracked head or blown the head gasket so that the oil and coolant don't mix.
First: Check the radiator - not the overflow. Needs to be full of 50/50 mix - not just water.

automatic trans you could have a crack in the cooler in the radiator this is an easy test for a radiator shop good luck
when you change a head gasket you have to use a torque wrench tightening each bult a bit at a time. then you need to run the engine four an hour and tighten the head bolts again.
If the cylinder head and gasket have been done - the problem will not be there unless they bodged the job.

Should be fine now - you may get some residual oil in the system - check weekly to make sure and drain the header tank to remove oil contamination.

To be honest it should be fine - a little oil in the water won't do any damage in the long term
if the probelm still exists your block is cracked
wasnt done right and or its a crack have a presure check done
if the job was done right . it is hard to get all the oil out of the radiator . and water passage in engine . one flush is not enough. drain water again and re flush it if there is oil in bucket you drain ant-freezes in to . take paper towel and lay on top of oil in bucket a few times will remove oil off of top . so you can reuse it again
This only happens with petrol engines when the head gasket has blown between the waterjacket and cylinder/s.The same with diesels ,except for ingress through the injector sleeves. If the new head gasket is fitted correctly and the head checked, for tracking on the diesel, as well as distortion on both types of engine, you should have no further trouble. It is always wise to fit a new thermostat while you are at it.GOOD LUCK.
if the cylinder head and gasket have been replaced, you shouldn't get that problem again, but, sometimes you may need to get the cylinder head skimmed due to warping.
Oil in the water actually is NOT a good sign. They should have cleaned the coolant overflow bottle and the radiator when they did it. If you still see oil in your coolant, bring it back.

2001 Jeep Gr Cherokee, v6 straight losing water, replaced radiator, no real signs of water in oil but cap sldg?

Runs fine, no sputtering. Had to 3 different shops. 1 put clamp on hose, another replaced radiator, 3rd pressure tested and replaced rad. cap. Could this be a cracked head gasket?2001 Jeep Gr Cherokee, v6 straight losing water, replaced radiator, no real signs of water in oil but cap sldg?
None of the shops block tested it? I'd have it block tested and see.2001 Jeep Gr Cherokee, v6 straight losing water, replaced radiator, no real signs of water in oil but cap sldg?
A blown head gasket will usually show up as white smoke coming out of the exhaust. If no white smoke, check the overflow tank for a crack in it.
    A v6?

    Look again.

I have an old kaboto traktor and the radiator water leaks into the oil pan?

i redid the head gasket and im stuped

i did leave it outside over the winter and maybe it froze i dont know any input will help

thanxI have an old kaboto traktor and the radiator water leaks into the oil pan?
Sounds like the head gasket is still leaking. Did you use a gasket tack glue with the gastket? It should help you keep it set in place when reassembling the head to the block. I think you are looking at doing it again.I have an old kaboto traktor and the radiator water leaks into the oil pan?
Bad news ! You did the head gasket improperly, or it has blown again. Or the block is cracked. Sorry !
It does sound to me like a cracked block. If you're sure it's not the head gasket, then that's about the only way coolant water is going to get into the oil. It seeps through the cracked cylinder walls and gets drawn down beneath the pistons, to mix with the oil and find its way down to the oil pan. Depending on how severe the crack is, it may be possible to get the affected cylinder(s) re-lined -which would also seal off the leak. But re-lining cylinders is not a home mechanic's job, and not something you can do over the weekend.

    Oil in radiator fluid?

i have a 05 nissan pathfinder, i took it to get and oil change and the tech said there is oil in the radiator, he showed me and there was beige slime on the radiator cap and some of the same slime right at the top of opening. he said it was a blown head gasket, called the dealer and they said that they never heard such in an 05 pathfinder. truck has 107,000 miles on it, not overheating, or smoking. what should i do?Oil in radiator fluid?
Head gaskets have been a problem ever since the automobile industry went to aluminum blocks and steel heads. The two metals expand and contract at different rates shortening the life of the head gaskets. They went to aluminum to cut weight, but had to keep steel heads in order to handle the heat and valve train. Sometimes you can just re torque the head bolts to stop the leak, but more often you need to have the gaskets replaced. It could even be a cracked head or cracked block. Get a few price quotes on the repair and get it fixed if you plan to keep the car. Some people would get the radiator flushed and trade it in. I had one car that had slime forming in the coolant overflow reservoir. I removed the reservoir, cleaned it and put it back and the slime never reappeared. But I think that was related to Dex Cool coolant in a GM car. I would try retorqing the head bolts, flushing the cooling system and see if the problem comes back before spending a bunch of money.Oil in radiator fluid?
if its an automatic ,that could be transmission fluid leaking through the radiator and causing that too happen,it will appear to be oil like and cause it to do that, the cooler for the transmission runs through the radiator,so its possible all you have is a bad radiator,if it is engine oil you should notice a slight difference on the temperature hand on it,it should be running a little hotter and you will also notice the top radiator hose getting real hard and stiff on it when its running, try running it some and see if the top or bottom hose gets real hard and stiff on it,im kind of doubting it being a blown head gasket, you can have it a pressure test done on to to determine if it s blown gasket this will take all the guess work out of it,good luck.
if the color of the water like red or pink so its transmission oil,and if its like gray so its motor oil, check the filling cover of the engine oil from any gray color ....some times the antifreeze looks like the oil,
Your cooling antifreeze has broken down. Get a complete rad flush and refill for about $125 and you'll see no more gunk at the rad cap. That grease monkey doesn't know what he's talking about.

  • What if i have engine oil in the radiator?

    bye bye engine!

head gasket gone a well expensive repair

    three choices

1 get it fixed - well expensive - still an old engine

2 factory rebuilt engine - well expensive- all the worn bits replaced + guarantee

3 drop the car like a hot potato b4 it stops altogether

i personally would go for option 3What if i have engine oil in the radiator?
    What kind of oil?

If it is engine oil, you might have problem with blown head gasket or cracked head. If is red transmission oil and your car has automatic transmission, then you may need a new radiator. What if i have engine oil in the radiator?
well 3 thing come to mind, one blowen head gastet, are a crack blockare cil wall
I am afraid Carl B is right. Your head gasket has gone thus allowing oil to mix with the coolant. Although you may not notice a huge loss of power GET IT DONE. Otherwise it will cost you even more.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

    Cheers, Graham.
That's not good. You could also have coolant in your oil. You've got a possible blown head or intake manifold gasket, a cracked cylinder head or engine block. You didn't say what make or model of vehicle, so it's hard to be very specific.
Blown head gasket is the common problem associated with oil in the radiator. The real question is Is there water in your oil. Start the engine and let it warm up. Pop the hood and pull the oil fill cap. Is there white smoke coming out of there? Is there a milky residue in the fill cap? If so , blown head gasket.

Next question....Is it an automatic transmission? If so, the trany cooler on a lot of vehicles runs through the radiator. If none of the above is happening, it might be a blown internal transmission cooler.

    GOOD LUCK
possible blown head gasket but ...

another thing to check is does it have an oil cooler line going from the oil system into the radiator thru metal and/or rubber and metal lines which run from near the oil filter to the radiator...

newer Cadillacs and others may have this...

if so the part in the radiator that the line feeds may have rotted and oil can enter thru this area (simular weird problem happened on a motorhome I was working on this spring)

get a compression test if it comes out good pull radiator and have a shop pull the tanks and check it

    Walt
    depends really

some cars have an oil cooler in their radiotor so it cools through the water could be just a small hole or slack fitting,

however more common is the head gasket,

the price of head gasket depends on what engine u have, straight forward engine on an older car shouldnt cost more than hundred pound

    sorry no good news lol
    Blown head gasket. Very $$$$.
Wrong hole.Try putting it into the motor next time.
then you probably have antifreeze in your oil....blowen head gasket

Oil filled radiator Vs. New electric baseboard...?

I recently installed a new electric baseboard heater (just the standard one - no fan) in my office. I am wondering, though, would using my oil filled radiator be more energy efficient?Oil filled radiator Vs. New electric baseboard...?
NO. all electrics are the same unless its a quartz or halogen which shines the heat to the object [u] %26amp; expends less to warm the room. eventually the e-heat will heat the room at the same cost %26amp; efficiency. for all e-heatersOil filled radiator Vs. New electric baseboard...?
I'm not familiar with the new electric baseboard heaters, but we did an experiment last year comparing electricity costs between oil filled radiators and the heat pump (forced air) --bottom line? We saved a LOT of money using oil filled radiators in the rooms we used most during the day.

See the following page on how to save energy for more info:

    Engine oil in radiator; why?

'97 Ford Ranger 4.0L. I thought my truck all of a sudden started burning oil. I checked my overflow reservoir and notice I have motor oil in it and my radiator. Any idea's what my have caused this?

Serious response only please. Thanks much! I appreciate the help.Engine oil in radiator; why?
Could be a blown head gasket, cracked head, or cracked block.Engine oil in radiator; why?
You have a blown head gasket that is letting oil pass into your coolant passageways. Get it replaced as soon as possible because it can clog the small passageways and cause more damage down the road. It might just be on one side and not the other but get them both replaced since you will be tearing it down anyway.
you may have oil cooler lines and that they maybe leaking in the radiator thats could be why you have oil in the radiator because some vehicles have oil cooler lines in the to keep the oil cool so it doesnt get to hot and overheat the engine
blown head gasket , get it replaced.

Please help?! Ceramic heater, fan heater, or oil-filled radiator ?

my oil-filled radiator is not working anymore and i really need a new heater for my room. it's so cold here. can you please recommend me which heater is the best %26amp; energy wise? Please help?! Ceramic heater, fan heater, or oil-filled radiator ?
Oil filled radiators are the best but more expensive then the others. They run quiet, are very safe, and give the most natural heat. Honeywell makes a real good slim one. Please help?! Ceramic heater, fan heater, or oil-filled radiator ?
Oil filled are very good at heating by convection, i,e, they heat the air in the room. Fan heaters do the samething but are noisy.

Ceramic heaters heat like the Sun and make you feel warm although they don't raise the air temperature in the room very much., there are cheap halogen heaters coming in from China which heat like ceramic, and are surprisingly good ( $18 )

My 1995 chrysler concorde is smoking where the oil dipstick goes and the radiator is always hot and boiling ?

You may have a bad thermostat, which is causing your engine to tun hot, and if your engine is running hot, it will cause your oil to heat up in the crank case and smoke through your dip stick holder. If you do not know how to work on cars, have someone remove your top radiator hose that goes to the thermostat, remove your thermostat replace the hose and see if that corrects your problem. If it does, then you need a new thermostat, if that does not correct the problem, then it is probably you water pump.....Good luck.My 1995 chrysler concorde is smoking where the oil dipstick goes and the radiator is always hot and boiling ?
Try flushing the radiator it may be clogged up.

  • I bought a radiator for my rover 214 from scrap yard that had oil in it?

i didnt clean the radiator could that be responsible for for the smoke belchin out my exhaust and my car doesnt start and when it does it drives for ten minutes then dies .have i broke my car?.was it that radiator,I bought a radiator for my rover 214 from scrap yard that had oil in it?
No, a dirty radiator can't cause that. I assume before you replaced it the engine overheated on you. It is more likely you did some damage from overheating and have a cracked or warped head or blown head gasket. Look for water in the oil.I bought a radiator for my rover 214 from scrap yard that had oil in it?
The oil in the rad to begin with was from the previous car having a broken head gasget, thats why the oil was in the rad.You should of inspected it first and gave it a good clean and you would of been fine. Now your probably going to pay big time financially to get it sorted. It was you not cleaning the rad to start with that caused you this to begin with.Good luck.
Why did you buy the radiator. What problems did you have to need a replacement radiator.Possibly you have cyl head or head gasket problems caused by your old rad .You have changed the radiator but still have the cyl head problem. If the smoke has a bluey tinge then you may have piston trouble
sounds as though you have ahead gasket or a warped cyclinder head or a holed piston that is oiling up plugs that is why its dying on you sorry about that the engine is u/s
No, these symptoms couldn't be caused by the radiator unless you'd filled the cooling system with oil instead of coolant.
good chance your head gaskets had it my friend not entirley uncommon on rover k series engines why didnt u flush the radiator before fitting

I have oil in my radiator reservoir- 1996 Ford Mustang, V6, 3.8 liter, 5 Speed Stick?

I noticed what apeared to be oil in my reservoir. Checked oil for signs of water- nothing found, just looks like old oil. The next morning, I tried to start the car but it didn't start. Got a jump, and everything was good after that. However, after being on the road for about 3 hours the car started to overheat with no A/C on the entire trip. The next morning, checked the car, radiator fluid in reservoir was low. So I filled it up, drove the car and it overheated in about 10 minutes. Went to start it up after it cooled down and it didn't start. I didn't observe any knocking or pulling when I drove the car, it ran smooth like it usually does. However, I noticed that when I pressed the gas pedal in neutral the temp gauge read hot but it went back to normal or in the middle when I let off the gas. Please help!!! What do you think the problem is....I have oil in my radiator reservoir- 1996 Ford Mustang, V6, 3.8 liter, 5 Speed Stick?
head gaskets are normally the cause for oil in coolant. severe case would be a crack in the block yes it will over heat and you should get it pressure tested to see where it is leaking from. I hope for your luck that its not internal and driving to long with overheating problems will cause warpage of the heads and/or block. you may end up spinning a bearing or other type of internal damage if you keep driving with this problemI have oil in my radiator reservoir- 1996 Ford Mustang, V6, 3.8 liter, 5 Speed Stick?
It is most likely a leaking head gasket

The 3.8 litre is a pretty tough and reliable little engine and worth fixing.

However,a Cracked head or block will also give the same symptoms. All the above can cause over heating, oil in the coolant and coolant in the oil. A pressure test will determine where it is leaking. I hope that its just the gasket %26amp; not internal. Overheating can cause additional problems, so, Do not drive except a short distance to the auto shop. Lots of additional damage if you keep driving with this problem

You need to get this checked out. Don't drive except to your trusted Mechanic.

Sorry...none of these are cheap fixes. Best of luck.

    Yours: Grumpy
ouch, um sounds like a head-gasket but im no pro.

    hope it works out
Either your head gasket is blown (about $400) or you have a huge crack in your block or head ($900-2000). Bummer dude.
Intake or head gasket most likely...
I hate to say (or see..) , but last time i had light brown residue in my radiator , it was oil , and it WAS from a blown head gasket, i mean - what else could it be?
With a 3.8 having those symptoms, the most common thing would be a head gasket failure!
sounds like you have a blown head gasket, which can lead to a cracked head due to overheating take it to a mechanic right away before you do anymore damage.
yup a head gasket, yur lookin at around $375

it was transmission fluid in the radiator. maybe the transmission oil cooler cracked and leaked fluid in the radiator and it just sealed itself. If oil was in a radiator in 1999 chevy camaro %26amp; now after flushing?
Could be an intake maniford gasket or head gasket but if its running great and no sign of oil after flushing the coolant maybe someone put oil in the radiator.
it most likely wasnt oil to begin with the Orange coolant called dexcool that gm uses if it is not changed and startes getting weak and breaking down then it starts get stringy and collect rust and other contaminates and it looks oily

usually a good radiator and cooling system flush will do the trick but now what you need to watch for is the intake gaskets and waterpump gaskets to start leaking

On these older vehicals you can use Coca Cola to flush out the radiator it has just enough acid to do the job usually a 2 liter is enough
not sure about oil but somtimes trans fluid from the cooler on the bottom of the radiator can mix them because inside it breaks..

cylinder head gasket blown..I have a 91 capri(Turbo) and the engine oil is comming out of the radiator. What do you suggest is my broblem.?
Is it engine oil, or transmission fluid (auto trans only) if its trans fluid, the cooler inside the rad.has to be replaced. If engine oil, probably a blown head gasket.another cause may be your turbo. some turbos are lubricated with eng oil,%26amp; are water cooled. could be a bad seal.I have a 91 capri(Turbo) and the engine oil is comming out of the radiator. if its an auto the cooler also goes though the rad via a pipe, this may be bust....or get a compression test done on the pots.
Blown head gasket. That motor was real bad about blowing the head gasket.
Cylinder head gasket, I wouldn't drive it until you've had it checked out by a mechanic.
    your head gasket possibly.

How expensive are oil filled radiators to run?

I live in a rented house, it has double glazing and storage heaters, however they don't really seem to be able to deal with the cold all that well, the house in the middle of winter is never warm. My landlord has reccomended getting an electric heater rather than him contacting the landlord about doing anything, how expensive will a 2500W oil filled rad cost to run roughly? How expensive are oil filled radiators to run?
A 2.5 kw oil filled heater will cost 2.5 times your electricity cost per kw, probably about 10-12p per kwh. So worst case is 2.5 x 12p = 30p per hour, when heating. However depending on the thermostat setting and the room temperature it will cut on and off once up to heat. so it will probably average out at about 20p per hour.

If your storage heaters are the right size for the rooms, they should be fairly efficient, have you got the stat and boost settings set properly?? They are not as bad as some people make out.How expensive are oil filled radiators to run?
    quite
30p per hour if left on full power sounds about right.

If you must use one....and I do too.....get one with a thermostat control and do your best to eliminate draughts. There's no point in allowing expensive heat to escape.

My preference is for a Dimplex or similar oil-filled type.
A 2500W heater will consume 2500 watts of electricity per hour - it is as simple as that. If you check a recent electricity bill you will find out what you are paying for your electricity (don't forget to factor in the standing charges and VAT as well).

  • Y is there milky white oil in radiator?

u have oil in radiator, this could be from a blown head gasket or a cracked cylinder head or block. if the car is automatic it could also be from the transmission cooler that runs through bottom of radiator, this can split causing oil to leak into radiator. if unsure have a professional check car out but they may need to strip engine to find cause.Y is there milky white oil in radiator?
Check your oil to see if it looks the same as your radiator, if it does then you most likely have a blown head gasket, but if it's only in your radiatoryou could just have a blown intake gasket which would be most easier to fix, plus cost you less money to fix it.Y is there milky white oil in radiator?
It appears that you have a blown up head gasket . However before you go any further on this you best take note that its not always the gasket but a cracked water jacket in the cylinder head . Please ensure that who ever you give your car for repairs to inspect the head . Normally when there is a crack there would be traced of rusty water . This can be repaired so do not dispair . But it would need a compitent machanic .

Meanwhile stop using your car .
one of three things, a cracked head, a blown head gasket or a cracked block. which ever it is, the leak is in a high pressure area, forcing oil into the cooling system.
Listen to the others, do not drive your car. It will cost you a few hundred dollars to save it.

mine cost a fortune to keep my house warm..... ive got two

my last quarter biill was 拢200 , and they are only on lowHi do running oil filled radiators from the shop cost a lot to run in electricity?
If you run them from the shop then you will not pay for the electric!!
They do. My auntie had one so we ripped it out and replaced it with a Storage heater (the ones filled with big concrete blocks).

They use cheap night time electricity to store up heat to release slowly through the day.
Like any electric heating appliance they can be heavy users. If for instance you have a 2 kilowatt oil filled which is on for 24 hours at, lets say, 12 pence per kw per hour then that will cost 拢5.76 a day (拢40.32 a week or 拢161.28 a month). The best ones have accurate thermostats which will cut the heater off for a while once the required temperature is reached but of course as soon as it drops again the thing is back on and using juice. The idea is that oil hold its heat longer than water in conventional rads and should keep the temperature up longer before it has to switch on again. The problem is that if your house is poorly insulated, draughty etc, then the heater has to work very hard to keep the heat up. I live in a static caravan and have to have one on at night in the lounge or I freeze when I get up in the morning. We do have bottled gas but that has got so expensive now (around 拢45 a cylinder), the oil filled is the cheaper option for me so I have no choice.
These things consume up to 3Kw/hr. This can cost up to 36p per hour, inclusive of VAT!

';The most obvious reason to purchase a oil filled radiator heater is for safety and a

for the cooler to work correct it should be supply line to the top and return line to the bottom.

    Oil in radiator fluid?

99 ranger 3.0 I replace the head gaskets and flushed the radiator and the fluid is still turning yellow. It was brown before the head gaskets were changed. Could it be left over oil in the coolant system? The engine runs fine. There isnt any coolant in the oil.Oil in radiator fluid?
Its probably left over. I have heard of this thing happening. If at all posible drane it and start over again but this time dont flush it just drane it and add new radiator fluid.Oil in radiator fluid?
It might just be left over. I always recommend that after you put in the new coolant change it again after a couple of hundred miles to get the rest of the oil out. If you are not leaking any oil then you know that the head is not bad. So just change out the coolant again and keep an eye on it.
it could just be residue in your coolant system
I had a 1995 Ranger, but, never had to do any major work on it.

You could have some oil residue in the cooling system. May try flushing it to see if it improve.

Also, did you replace the head bolts? Or, I guess I should ask, do they need replaced when a head removed? The reason I ask. Some vehicles today, the head bolt made to stretch when it first torqued down. The manual should tell the procedure. For example it may say torque to 90 foot pounds, then torque to 120 foot pounds. Once the head bolts have stretched and had the final torque they must be replaced the next time to do it again. But, I not sure on the Ranger and gave my repair manual away with the truck.

Normally when there coolant in the oil, it a cracked block or possible head crack. So, it may be good the oil OK.

An engine usually will run OK either way, just you have white oil or brown coolant. Friend had an old '54 chevy when we were young with a cracked block and white oil. We drove that car for three years and then went into the world to work. It still up on blocks at this old man's house and he says he cranks it up now and then.

I going to say after my short spill to try a flush first and see if it help, before suspecting any thing major and check about the head bolts.
possibly coolant -may be rust residue- if engines not overheating dont worry

i own a repair shop ,and a cracked head will be opposite,it will put anti freeze in the oil,if it has a cracked head it wont be mixing oil in the radiator on it,it would probably be mixing coolant in the oil,the only thing that might have happened to it is the inner cooler in the radiator could be leaking and adding transmission fluid in the radiator, and that will appear as oil ,but unless oil was just poured in it,it would be really hard to get oil in the radiator on it,good luck, hope this helps.PS the inside pressure of the engine will sometime push a small amount of oil in to the coolant chamber, but not a lot,if its got a lot of miles on it,you might want to consider another engine f or it,or get rid of it,good luck.Oil in my Radiator......Some say cracked head others say it's not a cracked head?

Does the car have a turbo? Could be coming from an oil cooler. Could be a cracked head or a cracked cylinder. Are you sure its motor oil and not trans fluid? Either way your car has problems and needs looked at by a professional.
It sounds like a cracked head to me, as I can't think of any other way you can get oil in the radiator aside from just pouring it in there.
two other things could cause this issue one is if it is a automatic transmission you can have a cracked oil cooer and you are leaking transmission fluid into the raditor, and it is possible but not very likely you have a intake manifold leakage. but thats rare.
Sounds like some serious problem. Have it looked into before you are stranded on the road with no transportation. Good luck.
a cracked head will do this also but if the trans coolor cracked it will let trans oil into the rad is it engine oil ?? u dident specifiy
I had the same problem with my car- a 1994 Sable...as long as it's just oil in the radiator and not water in the actual oil, then it shouldn't be a super-serious (AKA $1000 to fix) problem!

I got a new radiator (Glad it was my radiator that was cracked, and not the head!), and then flushed the radiator- using Prestone super flush- and am about to put some stopleak in the cooling system... hopefully that will do the trick. It's what my dad told me to do and he's worked on cars for years- and used to have a car like mine lol hope I helped! ;)
Cracked head or not, it IS a major problem. Could also be a bad head gasket, but not much difference there! I had an old chevy that pumped ALL of its oil into the cooling system, then I had a cracked head and a blown connecting rod. Whatever is doing it, its almost a certainty the head will have to come off and the radiator be ';boiled out';.
ahh neons there pretty much toss away cars not ment to last any ways , just change the motor and start fresh beacuse you dont kno what else is wrong with the motor
Someone could have added it to stop a leak or blown gasket. Bars Leak sealer has water soluble oil in it and looks and feels very oily. I have some in mine I'm trying to flush out, very messy!

or it could be a cracked radiator letting in fluid from the trans cooler which is inside the radiator on automatic equipped cars
assuming your car is an automatic first check trans fluid level %26amp; condition ,,most likely cause ...... the radiator gave out/cracked between coolant %26amp; trans cooler tank on side of radiator..!!DONT DRIVE the car too far if coolant is entering transmission youll be in bad shape!!! good luck!!! PS: have trans flush after new radiator...
don't have to be a craked head, Good possiblity that its just a blown head gasket.

Either way it's a job, Just getting the head off to verify.
There is no other way for oil to get into a radiator other then a craked head. Unless you pour oil instead of radiator fluid into it.
Those heads aren't always what they're CRACKED up to be.

Engine oil was leakin into my radiator n I just got that fixed. But the radiator's still a bit oily?

Hope this kinda oily water cant harm the water pump or some other thingEngine oil was leakin into my radiator n I just got that fixed. But the radiator's still a bit oily?
no it wont damage anything but you might want to add a radiator flush and then drain it and refill with clean 50/50 coolant. Use the correct type as reccommended.Engine oil was leakin into my radiator n I just got that fixed. But the radiator's still a bit oily?
It won't hurt a thing. As a matter of fact, if it's just a tiny bit, I'd leave it until nect time you change your coolant. At that time, or now if you prefer, do a complete coolant system flush and refill with the recommended coolant mixture.
if theres not much, it wont hurt nothing!. heck i always take a cap off of a oil bottle and put it in the radiator, it helps to lube the bearing in the water pump. it never hurts mine.

I live in england, does it cost much to use an oil filled radiator? ?

wondering if it's cheaper than the amount i pay on gas for my regular radiatorsI live in england, does it cost much to use an oil filled radiator? ?
Since it is electrical then you are able to judge. An oil filled heater is good for a small area on cold days but it was not meant as a main source. What is cheaper gas or electric.I live in england, does it cost much to use an oil filled radiator? ?
TRULY there is only one way to tell.

You have to calculate the power your oil filled heater uses.

Sure it has (probably) a 600w and 900w setting, but if it has a thermostat it will all depend on the temp in the room and how warm you like it. All depends because it will turn off and on by itself.

There is a device called a killawatt meter. Get one. You can audit anything on power consumption.

It will tell you how many KWh your heater uses and you can multiply the KWh on the price per KWh on your electric bill.

In my experience, oil filled IS cheaper if used for 1 room. Especially at night.
100 English pounds! Gimme a hundred!

Looking for an oil radiator that turns itself off after certain number of hours. Any ideas?

I rent a house to sharers and want to provide everyone with an oil filled radiator in their bedroom (cheaper than them putting on boiler which heats up the whole house when they only want a warm bedroom).

I am a bit worried, however, that they might leave it on by mistake for hours as I have done this numerous times in the past. Do any of you know of an oil filled radiator on the market that automatically turns itself off after a certain number of hours (i.e. 6 or 12 hours or something like that)?Looking for an oil radiator that turns itself off after certain number of hours. Any ideas?
Why not turn off all the other radiators and leave the bedroom ones on,then you can control this with the central heating timer?Looking for an oil radiator that turns itself off after certain number of hours. Any ideas?
There are a number of Delonghi oil filled radiators with built in timers, some are available at Argos among other places, including the Dragon, the Rapido and the Stretto. They can come with mechanical or digital timers too.
    Buy a wall switch timer.
I have DeLongi oil radiator with kind of switch by clock on the side. You can do pattern as central heating does: 2 hours in the morning and 5 hours at evening (at least my central heating set this way). I think lots of them (radiators) have that future. it just doesn't go as cheapest option
you'll have to purchase heavy duty timers to plug the heaters into. they have pins or pegs that you push in or pull out that tells the device that's plugged into it when to turn on and then when to turn off. you set them and then tell your tenants not to touch them without your knowledge. we have a few for home air conditioners REMEMBER HEAVY DUTY TIMERS. $10.00/$15.00 each. buy one till you figure out what your doing.

get the kind that have many plugs or pins,

the more plugs or pins the more often you can turn the device on and off.

remember to ask them not to change things without your knowledge.

    good luck to ya
i think your best solution rather than trust them to turn off things is to get them their own metres and they have to use a card for their own use.... if they dont put card in they dont get electricity..... it costs to have these installed but worth it in the long run.

But you can buy thermostatically controlled oil filled heaters with a timer look in the on line catalogues.... but then they can over ride the switches...............
fit a timer on the socket outlet ..available every where
    Something like this? http://www.baytak.com/storefront/viewite鈥?/a>

You could have an electrician mount it a gang box and hard wire it to the heater.

However, the labor and materials might approach the cost of the heater itself.

Toyota land cruiser auto 99 oil going into radiator then coming out thro expansion bottle any help?

Sounds to possibly be a blown head gasket. It is first going into radiator and then when engine is at highest temperature, the coolant expands and flows into the over flow canister. You may also want to check your engine oil for coolant to be mixed with it as well.Usually when reading the oil stick, the oil will look to be in excessive amount 'overfull' and the oil looking a greyish milky color.Do not continue to run engine as this will damage your main rod bearings.Instead, have towed to your choice of repair garage for further analysis.Toyota land cruiser auto 99 oil going into radiator then coming out thro expansion bottle any help?

I have oil in my radiator?

    Hi

I have oil in my radiator. A few months ago my car overheated as there wasnt a lot of oil in there, Now when i turn the car over it makes a gurgling noise, Stays at about half heat if not more and i have brownish liquid around the lid or radiator which i am asuming is oil? Does anyone have any ideas what the problem could be? Its a fiat Punto 03 plate if that helps.I have oil in my radiator?
Yup its right! Blown Cylinder Head Gasket. The water from the radiator are getting inside the engine.. Thus the oil and the water mix, which is very alarming. This happened when your car overheats. Replace it at once to avoid bigger damage to your engine.I have oil in my radiator?
you are describing a blown head gasket. the gurgle is from compression entering the radiator. the oil is from the condition of the cylinder that blew or a sperate issue happened and the radiator is leaking trans fliud thru its cooler
Cracked, warped head or blown head gasket. Or all of them combined.
its called a blown head gasket

Heater fan, oil radiator, ceramic heater or central air?

I'm renting a new apartment with cathedral ceilings and windows everywhere with just mini-blinds. I mainly sit in the living room, and then go to bed in the bedroom. I've turned my heat off and run a little Holmes heater fan which does a great job. But its a little noisy. I'm shopping for a new room heater. I had an oil-filled radiator space heater and man that thing worked great! But they're $40. I'm a cheapo and want to get another $14 Holmes heater fan but want your opinions first. The central air heat, with the high ceilings, take forever to heat up this place. I only need the room I'm in. ThanksHeater fan, oil radiator, ceramic heater or central air?
turn you're ceiling fan in reverse so it pulls the heat from the high cealing and use you central air .Heater fan, oil radiator, ceramic heater or central air?
Just as the other person said turn the ceiling fan(s) in reverse so the warm air will come down off the ceiling. Warm air rises, %26amp; cool air settles on the floor. If you don't want to waste heat in the other rooms until bed time. Close the heat vents in those rooms your not useing. Until right before bedtime. Or get a good electric blanket to keep you warm while you watch TV.

    Oil/Radiator Problem?

I went to get my oil changed today. After they began changing it, one of the mechanics came in with a black oil looking substance on his hands and said it was from the radiator.

I believe my fluid is supposed to be pink (Chevy Impala) but it was definitely darker than my oil even usually is. The oil shop doesnt do a whole lot more than oil changes and minor flushes etc, so they referred me to another place in town that could handle the flush that I needed.

My question is...what exactly happened? Was it motor oil leaking in, transmission fluid, or what? Also, when I was checking my oil the other day, I had a HIGH level of oil (like 2-3 inches up the dipstick). I thought that'd be a sign of coolant leaking in. However, the shop said nothing about that being a problem after I mentioned it.

They simply said I need to a heavy radiator flush. I can't get that done till wednesday either.

In the meantime, would I be able to drive at all?

    Thanks in advance.Oil/Radiator Problem?
first of all its your oil cooler line leaking..it goes into your raditor to help cool down.if its leaking its probably a 2 dollar o-ring you have to put in there..if it pours out of the cooler line where the radiator...bad news someone could have stripped it out resulting in you needing a new radiator

I have a 1976 460 engine in a f150 i have oil in the radiator but not in the engine?

144289 is correct to know what type of oil. If you have an automatic you have a trans cooler on the side of the radiator. If the trans cooler is leaking it will not only leak into the radiator but also water into the trans and burn it up in no time. If your trans fluid is running hot it will be dark red are black so check that also. I had this happen to my 64 Galaxie after a radiator repair and it locked the trans up.

If its the engine you might have steam at the exhaust also. You might not see water in the oil but you should see condensation build up on the dipstick and usually a lack of pressure in the radiator.I have a 1976 460 engine in a f150 i have oil in the radiator but not in the engine?
getting oil in your coolant should be head gasket(s).

the question now might be... do you have coolant in your oil?I have a 1976 460 engine in a f150 i have oil in the radiator but not in the engine?
not100% sure but i think it is the head gasket
What kind of oil, could be radiator, for transmission oil, or head gaskets for engine oil

Do I need polish or fix the head of my engine once oil found on the radiator cap?

I have a 1995 Dodge neon and recently I have found a white substance on the radiator cap and it seems like the head gasket is bad but once this happened, do I only change the gasket or do I also have to take the head out and send it to polish it or take it somewhere to fix it? Well that's what I've heard and wanted to make sure before they charge me.Do I need polish or fix the head of my engine once oil found on the radiator cap?
If you have a blown head gasket, you need a new gasket. You will also want to sent the head out to a machine shop to make sure it is not warped or cracked. Polishing a head is for performance. You polish the ports for better flow.Do I need polish or fix the head of my engine once oil found on the radiator cap?
    White stuff is stop leak%26gt;Not oil%26gt; Is it bubbling out the cap???Don't go to far with the worst%26gt; Is it not holding coolant%26gt;overheating%26gt; If not than maybe a flush if it's not clean in the Rad%26gt;

My Vt ss is using oil but not leaking it, although there seems to be a bit in the radiator..Help?

It is a little doughy sometimes to start, has a brand new battery in it. The heads are pulled off at the moment and the gaskets seem fine, so am at aloss..My Vt ss is using oil but not leaking it, although there seems to be a bit in the radiator..Help?
Head gasket leaks are often NOT that obvious. It could be leaking under or above the surface of the gasket or the head could be cracked. When doing a head gasket job, always take the head to a machine shop where they can test for cracks/leaks, check for warpage and machine the the mating surface. My Vt ss is using oil but not leaking it, although there seems to be a bit in the radiator..Help?
Have the heads crack tested and the intake manifold checked for corrosion or porosity. Also check the water pump housing in the timing cover for corrosion. Any of these components can allow coolant and oil to mix

Have you been using the proper coolant suitable for direct fire engines? Normal coolant is useless.

    Why car radiator got oil?

I have a nissan sentra 1998 - B14model. Last week I notice present of ol in the radiator and the engine got heat up when I accelerate. Why car radiator got oil?
You have a couple of probably the best and correct answers: a blown or failed (head) gasket. However, you could also have a cracked head or block (though you would probably notice this elswhere also if the engine is not cracked so bad it quit), and this would be more prominently noticed by oil and/or water leaking from under the car, very bad running of the car, or having the need to add oil frequently. I have owned two Sentras (along with an Altima, three Pathfinders, and a Quest). Nissan does make some tough engines, but around the 150,000 mile point (even if maintained properly), in my experience, things in the engine begin to fail quickly.

If the vehicle is otherwise running well and you are not having to add oil frequently (say, more than 1 quart for every 1,000 miles), clean your engine well (get some spray cleaner from Auto-zone) with the cleaner you spray on, wait about 10 minutes (or as directed by the instructions), then hose off (gently) and see if you can locate any cracks or abnormalities. After a good cleaning, you can also check your hoses and belts.

If it is only a gasket, it may be worth replacing (and something you might even be able to do yourself (just make sure you have a torque wrench), but a cracked block or head, you might want to consider replacing.

Just remember: Oil in the radiator IS NOT A GOOD THING! You will not keep the car running forever without repairing it! Good luck! Why car radiator got oil?
You have a blown head gasket.
Stick or auto trans? Most auto trans cars use the

radiator to cool the trans fluid and you could have an internal

leak there. If not, the engine itself is leaking into the water

jacket, most likely a gasket failure.
It sounds like you have a head gasket blown. Oil in the antifreeze is not a good thing. Id have a shop check it out. The longer you run the vehicle like this the more of a possibility of additional repairs being needed.
    head gasket good luck

Could be the oil filter seal didn't seat correctly. It's a very common problem and could lead to engine damage if you lose too much oil.

    I AM SUPERMAN.

    BLOWN CYLINDER HEAD GASKET.

YOU NEED TO TAKE IT TO A MECHANIC.

    NOT CHOICE,SORRY.
If there's oil in your radiator, then it probably means there could be a leak comming from the hose connected to the transmission.
What color is the oil? Could be oil cooler in radiator leaking.

Which is better for maintaining Room Temperature. Oil Filled Heat Radiator or Heat Convector?

Anything that circulates air (the convector) with a fan will be much faster to respond to changes in the room air temperature.

For 2 different kinds of units rated at the same power (i.e. 1500 Watts) the power consumption will be the same, the rate at which heat enters the room will be the same, but a fan will cause a faster response to changes (i.e. a door opens, a window opens, letting heat out of the room).

Does the radiator in a 1994 Chrevolet Caprice Classic have a Oil Coolant Line?

That depends on the RPO codes. It will have a trans cooler in the radiator tank on the pass side. The driver's side would have the oil cooler if equipped.Does the radiator in a 1994 Chrevolet Caprice Classic have a Oil Coolant Line?

i have a 1992 olds delta 88 and i need to buy i radiator but i dont know how to tell if it has a engine oil cooler on it and need to know so i get the right one.How tell if my car's radiator has a engine oil cooler?
No just a tranny coolerHow tell if my car's radiator has a engine oil cooler?
If it has an engine oil cooler, there will be 2 metal lines going to it, probably at the bottom. I have never seen a passenger car with an engine oil cooler though. Transmission cooler integrated into the radiator, yes, but not engine oil. Is this a diesel engine Olds by any chance?
First of all it doesn't have an engine oil cooler!,-- It is a transmission oil cooler (they call it a transaxle)! You can tell by looking on drivers side on end of radiator (Inside under hood), -- there are two fittings with metal tubes (about 1/4 - 3/8 inch in diameter) connected there , -- they go back to transmission! This is used by all cars with automatic transmission!

If you should have a car with a standard transmission you don't need the oil cooler, and if the repacenent you come up with has it, -just put plugs in holes and forget it!
If it has an auto trans. then it should have four lines going to it. two for trans cooler and two for oil cooler. trans cooler lines go to trans and oil cooler lines go to engine. usually to the oil filter housing. If you buy a radiator with oil cooler it will still work you just leave the holes where the lines would go plugged. hope this help
just look on the back of the radiator(engine side)

an see if you can see two sets of hard lines going into it or one(for the transmission)

  • I have a 1996 chevy impala ss, what would cause oil in my radiator overflow?

Check the transmission fluid level. Could be the trans oil cooler...it's part of the radiator. If it is, it's bad news for the transmission too.I have a 1996 chevy impala ss, what would cause oil in my radiator overflow?
more than likely it is a blown head gasket which a mechanic can fix easily for about $400. i just had that same problem a few months backI have a 1996 chevy impala ss, what would cause oil in my radiator overflow?
Each cylinder is surrounded by small water jackets that flow cooling water to the cylinder. If you have oil in the radiator overflow, it is most likely from your radiator, meaning a gasket has a leak and is leaking the oil from your crankcase to the water jacket.

You probably need to get a new head gasket to replace the old one.
Head gasket. Has it run hot sometime recently?
usually a blown head gasket,or cracked heads,or blown seals
Your top cylinder gasket may be flat.
    It's a very simple equation:

Impala SS + racing/hotrodding/overrevving the Impala SS= instant blown head gasket.

Prepare to open your wallet to have it fixed. Good Luck
If there is engine oil mixed with coolant coming out of the radiator(and not just antifreeze/coolant) you probably have a cracked block or a bad gasket between the block and the head. If its just coolant leaking your overheating so check the fan belt or fan motor to make sure it turns on.
The head gasket is blown, don't driveit get it fixed. It will cost alot.

You need to have the head checked - it may be warped or cracked. If it is, no amount of gasket changing will do it, it will either have to be planed level or repaired/replaced.

Oops, you need a new radiator.

The transmission fluid is fed through a pipe inside the radiator to keep the tranny from overheating. If a seam broke, it's going to make a mess of your coolant, tranny fluid, and the ground.

Replace your radiator. There is NO EASY FIX for this.
Man, you've got a real lemon there.

Transm. needs an overhaul, and that can run as much as $3000.00.

Oil in the radiator indicates serious trouble with the engine. Head gasket or any other seal between engine oil and coolant is shot. In any case, an engine rebuild is in order.

Your best bet is to try to get your money back.

Why does water from my radiator leak into my oil pan in my 1996 Chevy 1500?

1996 Chevy 1500 5.0L V8Why does water from my radiator leak into my oil pan in my 1996 Chevy 1500?
It could be a coolant leak inside the intake manifold coolant crossover passage in the front (where the thermostat bolts on) or rear (each side of the distributor). Have an inexpensive cooling system pressure test and go to Carquest and pick up a 4 pound radiator pressure cap till you get the mystery solved. Small block Chevies are not known for blowing head-gaskets as they have five head bolts around each cylinder. Why does water from my radiator leak into my oil pan in my 1996 Chevy 1500?
Possible cracked block, cylinder head or intake manifold, but may only be a head gasket.Does it 'white smoke' at start up? If so I'd suspect head gasket. If not and the oil (when u pull dipstick) is 'chocolate milky' looking, then probably cracked block, intake or head. Some background history on vehicle would help in making a 'preliminary' diagnosis.
There may be an oil cooler installed on the engine. Above the oil filter you may notice an adapter plate with two lines running in to the rad. The cooler in the rad maybe faulty.

Have the cooling system pressure checked.

    禄禄禄
Chev V-8s are notorious for warping their heads causing the head gaskets to leak. When you replace the gaskets, have the heads checked for trueness, and machining if necessary.
Most likely it's a blown head gasket. If your blowing white smoke out your tail pipe it's a good indicator that you have a leaking head gasket. Get a compression check to be sure.
it's your head gasket go to the parts store and get 2 bottles of head gasket sealer and pour it into your radiator.
Most times a head gasket has failed on the chevy trucks. Lets just hope it is not a cracked head. I`ll keep my fingers x`ed for ya.
Its the head gasket, or in your case, 1 head gasket.
either a bad head gasket or leaking intake manifold gasket, get it looked at ASAP.
It is your cylinder head gasket that has gone. I doubt there is a hole in the engine block.

    Dr Antony
    Head Gasket is the problem.
    possibly a cracked cylinder liner
    Blown head gasket.
get a compression test then you will no exactly what it is.

$o $orryWhat causes oil to leak into the radiator?
Faulty water pump/broken head gasket/cracked head/cracked engine block...it's probably the water pump, but any of the parts I listed could cause this type of problem. What causes oil to leak into the radiator?
Could be a number of things, blown head gasket is one possibility, and the most likely, but then again, depending on make and model and if automatic transmission or not, if the transmission oil cooler is built into the radiator, there might be a leak in that area where tranny fluid is getting in the water.

A radiator shop could test to see if that is the problem.
Let me guess. GM vehicle with a 3.1 or 3.4 engine. If so the intake gaskets.
Most often a leaking head gasket. Head gasket rarely ';blow'; as you hear ';blown head gasket'; unless you are running 8,000-13,000 RPM's like in drag racing and ';Top Fuel'; cars. The cylinder head will gradually warp (fraction of a millimeter) and the combustion pressures will push oil or exhaust gasses into the water jacket (coolant). If gasses are getting into the water jacket, you'll know very quickly as the pressures will cause an over flow of your radiator bottle.

The other two items that will cause oil to get into the coolant is that there are ';oil coolers'; inside of your radiator. The transmission cooler is typically on the passenger side of the radiator and, if your car has one, the motor oil cooler is on the driver side of your radiator. Rarely these internal ';coolers'; will rupture and either transmission fluid or motor oil will get mixed up with coolant. I know the Cadillac's have both internal ';oil coolers'; inside the radiators.

It does require some extra care to flush out an engine cooling system that has had oil inside of it. Hot water and some kind of soap (like dish soap) needs to be run through it or just fill it up with plain water and drive it around awhile and then drain it again and then fill it again and repeat until the water looks fairly clean when you drain it again.

    Good Luck!
    blown head gasket....not good.
cracked block or blown head gasget. How bAD DID U OVERHEAT IT....
    Could be a headgasket problem.
