i think crack in the cylinder headWhy is oil in radiator and radiator fluid leaking when warming car DONT SAY HEAD GASKET I WANT A DIFFERENT ANS
I am not certain this will help but it may. I have a nissan 240sx, and last winter it started running really rough and stalled all the time. Then I noticed both my oil and antifreeze from the rad were mixing and spilling. I was told that it was either that I cracked the block or the head gasket but that was wrong. I figured out that my car had a timing chain (rather than a belt which some cars have) and the chain was put on a tiny bit too loose so over the years it wore a hole through the side of the chamber right through to where the oil and antifreeze were. I have to have the whole thing replace and it cost me about $1500. I hope this may help. If anything, do a little research on your type of car to see if you can find other people who have had that problem. That's how I found out what was wrong with mine.
Sorry but there is no other answer than IT IS the headgasket, the headgasket will also make the block crack and cause all sorts of problems. Take it into a mechanic if you dont think thats what it is.
no type of car given, so here goes, it is the headgasket, or it is the intake gasket, or if you have an internal oil cooler, it is the oil cooler, but hey, you did not want to hear it, its the headgasket, especially if its a general motors 2.2 litre motor
sounds like head gasket may be blown from the exhaust to the water. i had this happen on a nissan it ran fine for a while then it started to show oil in the overflow . how we figured it out was to take it to a mech. there is a tester that can get for exhaust gases in the radiator. the water leak could be coincidental. i bet it is caused by excess pressure from the head gasket to the water side of the engine. there is only one way for oil to get into the overflow thats by headgasket failure. also while at the shop have them compression test the cylinders, this may answer the poor running problem. how long has it been since it has been tuned up?
it's most definitely your head gaskets
if you have the mechanical knowledge why you ask something different than the true?
what ever you have there you will need some heavy work on the engine to get it fixed
ill prefer change the head gasket instead of a broken cylinder head or a broken engine cylinder
and ill tell you the true like or not ROOKIE when you have one of above bad, the piston send the oil with heavy compression to the water system, that is why you see oil in the coolant tank and of course when the engine starts it pushes the remain oil again to the water system, once the water systems get full it will find a way out and that is why your car when runs starts leaking
and another reason why your car is runing rough, is because is LOOSING COMPRESSION SOMEWHERE
so i prefer repair the head gasket but you dont what to hear that so ill pray you have a bad cylinder and need to replace the COMPLETE ENGINE :D
those all my best wishes for you for the new year
Sorry kiddo,
The headgasket is blown--especially when you say the engine running rough. I'll bet you find the oil level low.
Oil pressure is higher (20-60psi) than water (7-18psi) and usually goes in that direction. Oil in the water. Unless its blown at the cylinders and coolant passage---then you'll get white smoke out the tail pipe.
Other proof of the gasket is if there are air bubbles in the radiator coolant, LOOK when engine is cold and observe as engine warms up. Never open when it's hot.
the only other possible thing it could be is:
cracked block
cracked head
diesel engine with an oil cooler (heat exchanger)
Love to tell you it's something that's only gonna cost you a few bucks to fix, but that's not the case.
Why not ask 'answers' for a good mechanic in your area?
jan_elgaard ASE Master Mechanic.
You could have a ';Cracked Block'; I had that problem with a previous car of mine. The car still managed to run but not well. But it looks like the only way you will find out what your problem is, is trial and error. There is no real way of finding the place where the two are mixing unless you take it all apart. i would try the cheapest fix first. or maybe just sell the car while it still runs... and get another one
if your sooo sure its not a head gasket then there is one other alternative...you have a crack in the block from your cylinder wall to your water jacket...
cracked head or block ok i didnt say head gasget...not to many ways for oil and water to mix...and u may want to find the leak
Sorry but thats a headgasket
check or replace PVC valve
Could be a cracked block. Did it freeze lower than the antifreeze could handle??
With oil in the water, it is probably a cracked head. how ever it could be a crack anywhere in the engine. you might be able to find it with a pressure test, but you may have to tear down the engine to find it.
It could be a number of things - problem is that oil does not stay where it should. This means only one thing - something in the engine either cracked (head or block) or something gave way (a seal or gasket, incl head gasket). There is probably no easy fix for this. Most mechanics will recommed removing the head to figure out what is going on. This will destroy the head gasket and thus will need replacement. I know you did not want to hear head gasket, but I think if you are lucky, it will be only the gasket. Cracks in the head or block is expensive to fix and there is no guarrantee that it will not crack again, unless you replace the damaged part. The problem could also be as a small seal somewhere in the engine (internally) that failed. If you vehicle has a engine oil cooler that uses the radiator to cool the engine oil, it could be possible that you have a leak there also - this should be failry easy to fix if the problem is in the radiator - just replace it.
Just my 2cents - hope it helps.
Take it to a repair shop if you don't like the answers you get. Sounds like a head gasket or your head is warped might need to take it off and check.
