Why is there is used engine oil inside as well as out on the radiator header tank on an s reg v6 vectra.?

the car has just been given to me and is currently a non runner.it has been stood for about a year. its too good to scrap with super bodywork and 16 inch sport alloys. even the spare wheel has never seen daylight. can anyone give sensible advice before i spend any money on it. thanks. Why is there is used engine oil inside as well as out on the radiator header tank on an s reg v6 vectra.?
could be a head gasket but i cant remeber for certain but i think that engine had an oil cooler with coolant running through it vauxhall always had probs with oil coolers when fitted but do some compression tests too check h/gasketWhy is there is used engine oil inside as well as out on the radiator header tank on an s reg v6 vectra.?
Ivortski quite correct - the V6 has an oil cooler in the waterjacket of the cylinder head. These are prone to leaking on high mileage as they have mica seals. You'd need to have it running to rule out head gasket problems though. Although the V6 is generally accepted to be practically bombproof.
Looks like a failed head gasket - if you can do the work yourself, it may be a viable proposition. Paying a garage to do the work will certainly cost more than the car's worth.
blown head gasket
this is a common problem with the v6 vectras simply because the engine is mounted so you have a cylinder head at the front and one at the back, the back doesnt get much air to it so it overheats. normally it is not just a blown gasket, the head tends to be cracked and because the problem is so common with these engines it is hard to get a second hand head. so you could try for a second hand engine.

also you could check if the omega engines head is the same because they are mounted side by side.

this is a bad design fault on the vectras
