I have a Peugeot 405 DT and there is black oil in the radiator. What is wrong?

It has also been leaking oil down the back of the engine for some timeI have a Peugeot 405 DT and there is black oil in the radiator. What is wrong?
i own a repair shop, and i been at this for 36 yrs,to save a lot of hassle with it take it and have a pressure check done on it and see how long it holds for ,i have feeling it may be a head gasket on it but without telling anything for sure have a pressure test done on it and go from there with it,this will drive you crazy guessing at it,good luck with it hope this helps.I have a Peugeot 405 DT and there is black oil in the radiator. You probably have some coolant in your oil pan too...it sounds like a blown head gasket, or cracked head/block. It won't be a low cost repair, have a shop do a pressure test on the cooling system, it likely won't hold pressure very long. That will confirm the problem...
What is wrong is that you bought a French made car.
head gasket is gone is there lots of smoke
If the car has not been regularly serviced this could prove expensive. Best advice as has been given already is to take it to a mechanic and have it checked professionally. It's odd that there's black oil in the radiator, I'd have expected some kind of creamy scum. Have you been topping the radiator with water or with water %26amp; coolant mix?

If only water, you may have inadvertently caused the problem.

And black oil, rather than brown oil, sounds as though the oil hasn't been changed for a while. An overheated engine can develop all sorts of problems and I hope you are lucky that it is not a cracked block. At least a head gasket is less expensive to replace than a new engine.

Good Luck!
you have at least two oil leaks. the oil in the coolant is probably from the oil cooler in the radiator springing a leak and the oil is getting in there that way. if so the radiator will need replaced and the cooling system will need flushed.

take to a shop to make sure
you definately need a head gasket set put on your car
Best case...blown head gasket. worst case....cracked block. At any rate your gonna need a good mechanic.
this has all the symptoms of head gasket failure. if this is the xud 8 valve type engine the cylinder heads suffer from internal cracking which necessitates pressure testing to eliminate this possibility. you'll need to steam clean the radiator and use other methods to remove the oil. or replace it. otherwise you'll have overheating problems.
that minor problem, but if you not repair in long time, you'll get major! the problem is gasket and you need to replace it. the better way is you send to authorised workshop.
