This heater is pure convection, meaning it heats the air around it. No radiant heat, so it' can't be ';pointed'; at what you want to heat.

Dont know of any real disadvantages. This type heater does a nice job of distributing heat. One of the main advantages is that there is virtually no risk of it setting nearby combustibles on fire.
