My radiator coolant may be getting into the engine oil. what might be the problem and what might it cost ?

Will it do more damage to drive the car in this condition? My radiator coolant may be getting into the engine oil. what might be the problem and what might it cost ?
possible head gasket problem. The gasket seals passages between the engine block and the head, where the valves are. There are holes for engine oil and the cooling system.

If the gasket developes a flaw it can allow coolent into the oil passages, or oil into the coolant , and coolant or oil or both into the cylinders.

Its drivable if its a small crack , but if it gets worse it can cause a lot of damage .

Call a mechanic and ask for a quote on replacing the head gasket.

Get the mechanic to diagnose the problem himself to confirm .My radiator coolant may be getting into the engine oil. what might be the problem and what might it cost ?
it could be your water pump . remove tha fan belt and push %26amp; pull on the fan itself. if it move, it could cause the pump to rub on the back , and will make a small hole in back of the water pump, letting water go into the engine., also if it was the head gasket the engine would missing. good luck Report Abuse

Catera have an oil cooler, known to leak, if the oil is just in the coolant and coolant not in oil, probably cooler, talking 300 if u do it yourself who knows if a dealer does it Report Abuse

If it is a GM v-6 it is most likely the intake leaking.
well their could be a few thing to cause this, but top number one thing be a head gaste,,, too, a crak block, , are a crak head, but i say it the head gastet,, yes it will, do more damage to you motor, for water an oil dont mix,,,,
Is your oil level going up, or looking whitish foamy? If not, you probably haven't damaged anything yet...

If it still looks like good oil, the fastest way to find out if you have a leaking head gasket is to pressure test the cooling system at a shop...if it don't hold pressure, it is leaking somewhere...

Head gasket replacement can go as high as $1200, sometimes a little more...
If this is true you have a bad head gasket, need the make and year and engine size to give you a price, email me and iwill give you a price.thank,,, .. bider2020@yahoo.com
Yes it will damage the engine.

Oil and coolant mix because of some of the following reasons:

Blown head gasket.

Warped head.

Cracked head.

Cracked block.
First it could be a head gasket or a cracked head, dont drive it much untill you get it checked out. If it is a head gasket that is much cheaper than a cracked head. If driven it may blow up completely.
Altough I am not a mechanic, I saw an article some years ago on this. One thing I remember is that there could be a small crack in the engine that leaks coolant into the main block. This could mean, at the worst that you would have to replace the block, which could be quite costly. I would suggest you contact your dealer or a certified mechanic to get a good diagnosis and an estimate...maybe check with several places so as to get a good price/diagnosis comparison.
Head gasket $800.00 and up
Most likely cause is a blown headgasket.

Repair and replacement costs depend on the model of the vehicle.

Yes is will damage the engine to drive it like this. The valve train needs oil for lubrication - not water.
could be a head gasket, or intake gasket. Either one can damage internal bearings. Intake is cheaper than head gaskets. There are methods to tell which one is the problem. Good luck.
